Visits vs. Applications?
Our lawn care programs each come with a set number of visits to your property. However, while we're visiting your property, we often perform multiple "applications" or treatments. For instance, one visit may contain fertilizer, crabgrass preventer, and broadleaf weed control. In order to fairly compare lawn care programs from different lawn care companies, the number of "applications" is the most important factor.
Soil Test
Why Do I Need a Soil Test?
Lawns in our area thrive best when they have a soil pH of 6.5 to 7.0. However, in many cases, the soil pH could be 10x or more acidic than desired. Low soil pH will promote certain weeds to flourish and will also cause your grass to lose color and thickness. Essentially, low soil pH chemically binds nutrients in the soil, making it harder for your grass to grow as intended. We will test the soil and let you know if there are any major deficiencies that won't be addressed with typical treatments.

There are all sorts of weeds that emerge throughout the year. There are different materials that should be applied at various times. Plus, there are other treatments that can reduce weeds even more. Watch the video below to learn more.
Premium Fertilizer
Isn't All Fertilizer the Same?
Actually, no. When we say "premium" fertilizer, we're referring to the absolute best fertilizers we can get as professionals. You'd be surprised to learn that many lawn care companies scrimp on quality. However, at Joshua Tree, we're committed to using fertilizer that will help grass color, thickness, and root development. Check out this helpful video.
Crabgrass Pre- and Post-Emergent
Year-Long Crabgrass Control Crabgrass is a major problem.
A single plant can produce 75,000 seeds in one growing season! In order to drastically reduce crabgrass, we apply professional-grade crabgrass pre-emergent in the spring. This will eliminate most of your crabgrass, particularly in thick grass that is mowed at 3" or higher. However, thin spots and areas near pavement may have some crabgrass break-through. To combat crabgrass after it emerges, we will spot-treat these plants with a specialized material in the summer months.
Premium Winterizer
Fertilizer in the Winter?
Late fall provides a great opportunity to really strengthen your lawn. Our premium winterizer fertilizer is higher in certain nutrients that will help to improve your grass roots. This late-season dose of fertilizer will also help promote an earlier spring green-up next year. Just because your grass doesn't appear to be growing as much, don't miss this important treatment!
Full Season Grub Control
Stop Permanent Grub Damage!
Grubs are the larvae of certain beetles in our area. As these beetles fly, eat, and mate in early summer, they lay eggs in lawn areas. Their larvae (grubs) will hatch in late summer and cause major damage to lawns. They feed on the root system of the grass causing large areas to die quickly. Our preventative grub control treatment is proactively applied in late spring to early summer. It will provide season-long protection against grubs. When they hatch, they immediately come in contact with the material and bye-bye grubs.
Nutsedge Control
What's This Weird Grass?
Nutsedge is often mistaken as a lime-green grass growing in lawns. As it emerges in late spring to summer, it grows more rapidly than the surrounding grass making it very noticeable. Single plants will turn into large patches. Given time, it will cause some areas of your lawn to thin out. While it is easily pulled, the best approach is to treat it with a specialized material. This will reduce reoccurrence when pulling nutsedge could actually make matters worse! Our program offers nutsedge control all summer.

Our lawn care programs are designed to have an expert on your lawn throughout the year, applying proactive treatments. However, we know that sometimes there may be a few weeds that may not die. Just contact our office. If you're not due for your next treatment, we'll be happy to return to address the issue. If you have questions about strange brown areas, it may be a good idea for a technician to inspect for other problems such as turf disease.
Follow-Up Evaluations
More Than Just Material Applications
Your technician will be applying all sorts of materials to get you a great lawn. But they're also proactive experts that like to give advice. If they have recommendations on how you can enhance results, they'll let you know. And, since Joshua Tree also provides pest control and tree services, they may even leave you recommendations for any other problems they may notice.
Double-Pass Core Aeration
Improving Your Long-Term Lawn Health
Core aeration is one of the best things you can do to improve the health of your lawn. A machine called a core aerator pulls small cores (1/2" wide x 2-3" long) throughout your lawn. At Joshua Tree, we perform a double-pass with this machine to extract more cores. This fall-time treatment will help to reduce soil compaction and will stimulate root growth for a more resilient lawn. Whether your grass is thick or struggling, annual core aeration is always a great idea!
Overseeding
Fill-In Thin Areas
Overseeding your lawn immediately after core aeration is a great way to thicken your grass. It also provides another excellent benefit. Grass species are improved over the years meaning the newer seed blends applied during aeration and overseeding can create a lawn that will better withstand diseases, drought, and other challenges.
